Violet A. TouVelle, 84, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 4, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf where she was a member. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Violet was born February 10, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Hjalmar Bernard & Lillian Violet Victoria (Magnuson) Gudmundson. On March 24, 1945 she was united in marriage to Dr. Alwyn R. “Doc” TouVelle in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1981.
Violet was employed as an Executive Secretary with the Sunlight Corporation in Chicago. She and her husband moved to Bettendorf in the early 1950’s where she assisted with Alwyn’s medical practice as a secretary and receptionist. She then retired as she raised her family.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed the time spent with her family. She supported them in their involvement with Bettendorf School athletics and fine arts.
In addition to St. James Lutheran Church, her memberships included the Bend of the River Quad-Cities Pilot Club and the Genesis Medical Auxiliary. She had also enjoyed traveling extensively over the years to many locations.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Donald Evans, of Bettendorf; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Stephen & Terese TouVelle, of Bettendorf, Todd & Shannon TouVelle of Jacksonville, Florida and Matt & Alison TouVelle, of Peoria, Illinois; her grandchildren, Justin Evans, Katie Evans, Jason Evans, Jared Evans, Melissa TouVelle and her fiancé, Mark Wallace, Carrie TouVelle, Anthony TouVelle, Grace TouVelle, Nathan Ross TouVelle, Sarah Nichelson, Emily Nichelson, Megan TouVelle and Jon TouVelle; her great-grandchildren, Kain Evans, Alyssa Evans, Aiden Evans, Garrett Evans and Tenley Evans; her cousin, Richard Gudmundson; and close friends, Pat Phillips and Jacqui Grimshaw.
In addition to her husband, Alwyn, Violet was preceded in death by her parents; and by an infant son, Randall Paul in 1961.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Joseph Lohmuller, Dr. Stephen Rasmus, the Genesis East ICU nurses and the staff of Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their loving care and support.
