Virginia Gheer

Virginia M. Gheer, 73, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus following a courageous battle with cancer.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

She was born November 12, 1941 in Davenport, the daughter of William & Helen Ricklefs.  On July 22, 1963, she was united in marriage to Albert L. Gheer Jr. in Clinton, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on April 17, 1996.

Virginia was employed at K & K Hardware in Bettendorf for nearly 40 years.  Her familiar face and warm smile will always be remembered by K & K’s many customers.

In her spare time, she enjoyed harness racing, knitting, crocheting, doing a wide variety of crafts and bowling.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Darrell Gheer, Rick Gheer, Ronald Gheer and Mark (Melissa) Gheer, all of Davenport; her grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, Ryan, Benjamin and Brandy; and her great-grandchildren, Kingston, Alex, Rosalie, Cason and Annalise.
