Virginia Belle Till, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2024. Born on January 12, 1940, in Glendale-Moundsville, West Virginia, Virginia lived a full and vibrant life marked by faith, family and kindness.
Virginia graduated from Tyler County High School in 1958 and soon after began her career at the National Steel Company. Starting in the mailroom, her attention to detail saw her rise through the ranks to the steno-pool and eventually become an office administrator, where she led a small team of office assistants. Her career took a new direction when she relocated to Iowa, where she became a teaching assistant for the Pleasant Valley School System. Virginia also played a crucial role in helping her husband, Eldon, sustain two small businesses over the years.
Virginia Whetzel first married Lyle Miller in 1965. They shared ten beautiful years together before his untimely passing on September 5, 1975. Love found Virginia again, and she married Eldon Peter Till on March 30, 1979. Their partnership brought joy and fullness to both their lives and their blended family.
Virginia's love knew no bounds, especially when it came to her family. As the matriarch of a blended family, she embraced her role with grace and compassion, nurturing and supporting each member with unwavering love. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, sharing in their laughter and creating lasting memories. Some of her many activities with them included baking cookies, a tradition that brought joy and sweetness to their lives, playing games, taking walks and asking them questions. Christmas held a special place in Virginia's heart, and she delighted in playing the role of Mrs. Claus for her grandchildren, bringing the magic of the holiday season to life.
A devoted member of Central Church of Christ in Davenport for more than fifty years, Virginia dedicated herself to various church activities. She held roles in the bus ministry, coordinated funeral dinners, organized volunteers, and taught both vacation Bible school and Sunday school, making a lasting impact on her church community.
Virginia was the beloved mother of four children: Valerie Ann (Randy) Goerner, Beverley Ann (Dan) Baker, Rene’e (Bill) Wetteland, and Terry (Mandy) Till. She took immense pride in her children and supported them in all their endeavors. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Sage, Mallory (Trevor), Christian, Grant, Seth, Creighton, and Cameron.
Known for her warmth and generosity, Virginia's home was always a welcoming place for family and friends. She found great joy in children, gardening, golf cart rides on their property and serving others. Her love for family gatherings, enjoyment of all thing’s nature and pride in her home were testaments to her nurturing spirit.
Virginia's faith and resilience were evident throughout her life, especially as she navigated the challenges and joys of raising her blended family and building lasting relationships. Her consideration, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched many lives, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
A memorial service to honor Virginia's life will be 11:00 am, Monday, May 20th at the Central Church of Christ, Davenport. Private family burial will follow at Pinehill Cemetery, Davenport. Family will greet friends on Monday from 10:00 am to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Church of Christ in Davenport, reflecting Virginia's deep faith.
Virginia will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
