Virginia M. Runyon

Virginia Marie Runyon, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Milan, died on Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Manor Care Nursing Center in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born October 26, 1915, in Moline, the daughter of Joseph and Lula Fern (Cook) Shatterman. She was united in marriage to Chester L. Runyon in 1935, in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Virginia cared for infant children in Des Moines, Iowa and in Milan while they awaited placement by adoption.
Among the things she enjoyed were collecting dolls, angel figurines and celebrating and decorating for the holidays.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Virginia L. Williams of Bettendorf; her sons, Chester (Pat) Runyon of Newburg, Ore., Raymond (Marcene) Runyon of Des Moines, Iowa, Melvin (Mary) Runyon of Glendale, Ariz., Joseph Runyon of Boring, Ore., and Rick (Roxanne) Runyon of Irvington, Ill.; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dolores Dennison of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Richard; a grandson; and a great-great-grandson.
