Virginia was born on October 16, 1930 to Wayne & Frances Eveleth. She graduated from high school in 1948 and then attended A.I.C. Business School successfully completing a 1-year course. She worked as a bookkeeper for the former M.L. Parker Department Store for approximately one year before taking a position in the Alcoa Accounting Department.
On April 2, 1950, Virginia married Robert A. Pekios in Davenport and just recently they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Virginia gave birth to three children over a period of nine years and was a full-time mom until her children were raised. She then went back to work as a bookkeeper in her husband’s construction business. Four years later, her husband bought his father's 50 year-old out-of-print book store-the Source Book Store in downtown Davenport which she & her husband owned & operated for 24 years. Virginia became not only a good sales clerk, but an expert in the repair of old shaken books and loved doing it. She & her husband retired on December 31, 1999 and sold the business to the son, Daniel who carries on the 70 year-old business.
During her life, Virginia enjoyed playing the piano, bowling, golfing, fishing, handwriting analysis, astrology, the study of religion and something dear to her husband’s heart-cooking. Virginia enjoyed traveling in America. Her favorite place of all was Door County, Wisconsin which she & husband visited for at least a week or two for 55 straight years!
She was a great conversationalist and listener with a manner & sense of humor that endeared her to almost every person she met. She loved being a housewife and developed a strong bond between her, her children and grandchildren. She will be missed!
Survivors include her husband, Robert; her daughter & son-in-law, Rebecca & Ronald Tuftee; her sons, Daniel Pekios and Timothy Pekios; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Velma Seitz.
