W. A. “Bill” Tharp, 73, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, February 02, 2010 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf after an extended illness.
His graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 5, 2010 at the McCausland Cemetery, McCausland, Iowa. Those wishing to attend his service should gather at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf by 9:30 A.M. Friday. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born January 17, 1937 in Grundy County, Missouri, the son of Carl & Ethel (Cunningham) Tharp. On January 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Myrna Ruth Wells in Princeton, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2007.
Bill retired in 1999 from the Bowe Machine Company after many years of service. In earlier years, he worked for the Sivyer Steel Company.
His family, especially his beloved grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved watching them grow up. Whenever there was a football game or other sports activity, Bill was there cheering them on. Although he will be sadly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew & loved him.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Cinthia (Kirk) Schulting of Bettendorf; his sons, Brad (Julie) B. Tharp of Webster City, Iowa and Rodey (Connie) L. Tharp of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Meredith (Corey) Bargfrede, Matt Tharp, Elizabeth Tharp, Michael Tharp, Daniel Tharp, Shayla Cudd and Kevin Schulting; his great-grandchildren, Delainey & Carson Bargfrede; his sisters, Jo Adams of Trenton, Missouri, Kay (Larry) Crawford of Trenton, June (Gordon) Blacksmith of Indianola, Iowa, Carolyn (Bill) Wendt of Chillicothe, Missouri, Betty Kincade & her companion, Marvin Cranmer of Chillicothe and Shirley Keith of Chillicothe; his brother, Glenn (Carolyn) Tharp of Chillicothe; his brother-in-law, Ron Wells of Bettendorf; many nieces & nephews; and a very special friend of the family, Barb Wright of Bettendorf.
In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Howard and Nina Persell; and his brother, Jack Tharp.
