Walter J. “Bud” Pokorny, 75, of Davenport passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at his residence.Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Noon on Wednesday, July 10th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bud was born on April 22, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa the son of Walter and Irene (Blocker) Pokorny. He married Marlus A. Busch on May 4, 2022 in Davenport, following a 20 year courtship. Prior to his retirement in 2014, Bud worked for over 40 years as a machinist at M.A. Ford. He enjoyed country and western music, stock car racing, and NASCAR. Bud was a former DJ and country dance instructor at the former Sweetwater in Moline and enjoyed going to the former Chaps Dance Hall in Bettendorf. He and Marlus were avid followers and fans of the band “North of 40.” Bud was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Marlus Pokorny of Davenport; his children, Ryan (Eleamor) Pokorny of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Mindy (Richard Jack) Hart of Winder, Georgia; grandchildren, Patrisha McCollum and Travis Hart; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia.
