Walter G. Fichtner, 95, of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Quad-City Animal Welfare Center.
Walt was born October 14, 1912 in Davenport, the son of Otto E. & Anna M. (Gloess). He was united in marriage to Ruth P. Dahl on November 2, 1935 in Davenport. Walt retired on July 9, 1969 from the Rock Island Arsenal where he had been employed in the Supply Depot Division. Previously during World War II he had worked at the Arsenal testing tank engines. He subsequently worked for the former Grampp Motors selling Studebakers. He later sold real estate for Ruhl & Ruhl, and then became a broker and formed Fichtner Realty.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Davenport and Moline and received his 50-year pin.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Gloria Hertrampf, of Waukon, Iowa; his son and daughter-in-law, Walt & Cece Fichtner, of Davenport; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joan Marjancik; his sisters, Elizabeth Clemons and Gertrude Williams; and his brothers Paul & Henry.
