Wayne Charles Swearengen, 67, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Pleasant Valley Primitive Baptist Church, 2382 McKinley Blvd., Davenport, Iowa where he was a faithful member and deacon for over 30 years. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Contributions in his memory may be made to the church.
Wayne was born September 13, 1938 in Cora, Missouri, the son of Glen & Frances (Tucker) Swearengen. On June 11, 1966, he was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Wristen in Blue Grass, Iowa.
He was employed for 16 years at the Caterpillar Company in Mt. Joy until the company closed in 1988. He then worked for the Pleasant Valley School District until 1992 and at the Scott County Jail from 1993 to 2004.
Wayne was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving from May of 1957 until May of 1961.
During his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing & home maintenance projects.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Gladys; his sons & daughter-in-law, Charles Wayne Swearengen and James Kenneth & Betsy Swearengen, all of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Brittany, Jacob, Ashley & Sarah; his father, Glen Swearengen of Milan, Missouri; his sisters & brothers-in-law, Laura & Bobbie Sterling of Milan, Missouri and Joan & Alvin Hagen of Trenton, Missouri; his brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Nola Mae Swearengen of Browning, Missouri; several nieces, nephews and Gladys’s sisters & brothers.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother; and by infant twin sons.
