Wayne D. Madsen, 79, of Long Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, January 1, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Wayne was born July 11, 1925 in Davenport, the son of Marinus and Vera (Hamann) Madsen. He was united in marriage to Wilma M. Smith on April 22, 1948 in Davenport. Wayne was employed at a crane operator at Alcoa in Bettendorf for 33 years and had farmed in Long Grove for 45 years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the PT Boat Club, having served on PT boats during the war. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Wilma; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn & Gary Anderson, Springfield, Illinois; his son, Don Madsen, Iowa City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell, and Dana Anderson, all of Springfield; his niece Linda DeMuth and her son, Dustin, Davenport; his nephew, Bob West, Northridge, California; and members of the Buck family of whom Wilma is related.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Edward, in 1976; and by his sister, Phyllis West.
