Wayne K. Drummond, 85, a resident of Donahue, Iowa died on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at West Wing Place in DeWitt, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born November 25, 1919 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the son of Marvin & Elizabeth (Engler) Drummond.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Mortar Battalion in Sicily, Naples, Rome-Arno, southern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland & central Europe. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Silver Battle Star and 2 Bronze Battle Stars, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, 4 Overseas Service Bars and 1 Service Stripe.
On April 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lucille A. Diller in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 5, 1992.
Wayne was employed for 33 years with the Scott County Road Department, retiring in April of 1983.
He was a member of the Dixon American Legion and a former volunteer with the Donahue Fire Department.
During his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening & fishing.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters & sons-in-law, Cheryl & Cliff Neilson of Delmar, Iowa and Barb & Dennis Hintze of Long Grove, Iowa; his grandchildren, Christy Hughes & her husband, Greg, Tony Neilson, Elizabeth Vens, Kathleen Vens, Nicole Roman & her husband, Kevin and Matt Hintze; his great-granddaughter, Madison Hughes; and his sister, Jeanette Quinn of Donahue.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Myra Wiese; and his brothers-in-law, William Quinn and James Wiese.
