Wayne K. Piatt Sr., 69, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at his home following an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born May 21, 1935 in Lone Tree, Iowa, the son of Eugene True & Dorothea Marie (Weise) Piatt. On November 14, 1986, he was united in marriage to Penny J. Sauls in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
Wayne was a photographer & later, a lock & dam operator for the Rock Island Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1983 after 28 years of faithful service. In earlier years, he owned & operated Wayne’s Texaco on Rockingham Road in Davenport.
During the Korean Conflict, Wayne served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper & photographer. His photographic work was well-known and he was published in the Stars & Stripes newspaper several times. On August 24, 1956, he was honorably discharged.
Wayne was an accomplished boxer and had boxed in the Golden Gloves many years ago. His memberships included the Pony Express Riders of Iowa and the Disabled American Veterans.
His interest were varied and his love for life was always apparent. He loved stock cars, enjoyed & appreciated quarterhorses, loved hunting, fishing & boating and in later years, “RV”ing with his beloved wife.
Being a Christian was of great importance to Wayne and he truly loved the Lord.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Penny; his daughters, Cynthia Pompa of San Antonio, Texas, Janice Hantsbarger & her husband, Al of Van Nuys, California, Toni Arnold & her husband, Robert of Davenport and Amanda Baker & her husband, Chad of Moline, Illinois; his sons, Wayne K. Piatt Jr. & his wife, Nadia of Tupelo, Mississippi, Craig Piatt & his wife, Lisa of Wheatland, Iowa and Shane Conner & his wife, Debbie of Davenport; twelve grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and two more expected in November; his sister, DeEtta Montgomery & her husband, Wayne of Davenport; his brothers, Terry Piatt & his wife, Carol, Dean Piatt & his wife, Donna and Rick Piatt & his companion, Lori Gares, all of Davenport; and his beloved Toy Poodles, Kolby, Gizmo, Sassy & Kelsi.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
