Willem Arnold

Willem Frederick Alexander “Bill” Arnold, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf.

Private family services are to be held.  Public visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa.  Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.

Bill was born November 17, 1925 in Surabya, East Java, Indonesia the son of Frederick A. and Lily Arnold.  In his teen years he became a prisoner of war in a Japanese concentration camp until the end of World War II.  After the war he moved to the Netherlands.  He was united in marriage to Louise Engelhard on December 7, 1950.  She preceded him in death in 2004.  In the late 1950’s he moved to the United States with his wife and family, where he stayed for the remainder of his life.

He retired from Met Life Insurance Company after many years of service as a Life Insurance Agent.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and reading.

Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Frederick “Dick” (Sandy) Arnold, Dickson, Tennessee and Michael A. Arnold, Morrison, Illinois; his granddaughters, Sara Arnold and Brittany Arnold both of Bettendorf and his brothers, Rudy (Dorothy) Arnold, Ocala, Florida and Ray Arnold.

In addition to his wife, Louise he was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Evert “Rob” Arnold in 2006.
