William Carter

William E. “Bill” Carter, Sr., 73, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus in Davenport.

Funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27 th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established.

Bill was born on January 12, 1941 in Davenport, the son of Warren and Dorothy (Clapp) Carter. On March 2, 1963 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, Bill married Joyce Helfrich.

Bill was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 formerly local 537. He enjoyed fishing, camping, music and in his earlier days, dancing. Bill was an avid “Western Channel” viewer. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 - 1961.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joyce; daughters, Connie (Norman) Maynard of Ft. Collins, CO and Sandi (Rod) Larson of Bettendorf; son, William “Billy” (Kelly) Carter, Jr. of Davenport; grandchildren, Kayla (Ryan) Schaft, Jessica (Christopher) Dull, Brittney Johnson, Samantha and Austin Larson, Nathan, Logan and Clayton Carter; great-grandchildren, MaAliyah Miller, Caiden Dull and Rilynne Larson; sisters, Judy Harrelson of Galesburg, Patricia Reinhart of Washington, IN, Cheryl Channon of Riverdale, Sue Dyer of Blue Grass and Regina Carter of Davenport; brothers, Harry “Pepsi” Carter of Davenport, Warren Carter, Jr. of Blue Grass, Bob Carter of Blue Grass, Ron Carter of Calamus, IA , Mike Carter of Davenport and Jim Carter of Blue Grass.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister-in-law, Kelly Carter and nephew, Scott Carter.
