William F. “Bill” Paxston, 87, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Tin Can Sailors or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Born on April 29, 1930 in Moravia, Iowa, Bill was the son of Kenneth and Fern (Klingingsmith) Paxston. Bill served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1947 – 1950. On July 9, 1983 in Nashua, Iowa, he married Sue (Stephens) Brinkley.
Bill was employed in maintenance at J.I. Case Company in Bettendorf for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a life member of the VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, two senior bowling leagues, Tin Can Sailors, 60 Plus Club and AARP.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue; children, Donna Lane of Davenport, Clara Ware of Davenport, Constance Wirtz of Salina, Kansas, Michael Brinkley of Rock Island, and Vivian Sountris of Blue Grass; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Clymer of Bloomfield, Colorado.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sons, William and T.J.; and five brothers.
