William R. “Bill” Hutter, 83, of Walcott, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bill was born on August 22, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Louis and Ruby (Freeman) Hutter. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge in 1961. Bill was united in marriage to Barbara A. Harvey in Galesburg, Illinois on January 10, 1970. He worked as a refrigeration and air conditioning technician for Dennis Co. for over 20 years and for the Old President Riverboat Casino for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1999. Bill was an avid bowler and fisherman. For many years, he volunteered as a bowling coach for youth leagues. He was a proud Navy veteran and would attend the reunions with his fellow shipmates of the USS Altair AKS - 32.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Barbara Hutter of Walcott; his daughter, Marie (Mike) Tharp of Walcott; his son, John (Nancy) Hutter of Davenport; four grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Tellez, Katelyn (fiancé, Chris Wolfram) Tharp, Joshua Hutter, Steven Hutter; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
