Bill was born August 10, 1935 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Versal and Dessie (Roe) Paxston. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Thornton in LeClaire on October 20, 1956. They were blessed with three sons. She preceded him in death in 2012.
Bill worked for the Alcoa Company, retiring as a Unit Supervisor in 1993 after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed his time camping, especially in Brownsville, Texas, woodworking, and fishing. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a hard worker who got a bit stubborn at times. One of his greatest joys was telling “old Indian” stories and making everyone he met laugh.

In addition to his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Norma Steinmann, Joanne Beatle, and Colleen Collier.
