William Young

January 16, 1921 — February 16, 2017

William E. Young, 96, of Davenport, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center in Davenport.

His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.   Rev. Ron Huber will be officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island.  Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County.

Bill was born January 16, 1921 in Pleasant Valley, the son of Albert & Irene (Kiefer) Young.  He was united in marriage to Patricia L. Munns on April 1, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on August 13, 2013.  He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II.

Bill had worked as foremen with Alcoa from 1946 to 1948.  He then was on the Davenport Park Board working as a mechanic with Fejevery Park then as caretaker from 1965 to 1981.

He was a lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League, the Moose Lodge and Beaux Arts Festival.  Bill enjoyed making wooden items for family and friends; clocks, cabinets and furniture.  He also enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs and other sports.  Bill enjoyed the company of animals and his family, especially his grandchildren and loved to take drives and embarking on helicopter rides.

Those left to honor Bill’s memory include his daughters, Linda Beadle (Greg Nelson) and Gay (Larry) Jasper, both of Davenport; his grandchildren, Andrea, Christopher, Penny, Lindy and Maddie; his great-grandchildren, Ken, Allyson, Emily, Trace, Ty and Maker; and his sister, Alberta Woods of Davenport.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard Lee Young; and his grandson, Richard Beadle, II.

Bill’s family would like to thank Rev. Ron Huber, the nurses and staff at the Good Samaritan Center, Genesis Hospice and especially Dr. Staley for all of their wonderful care and comfort for Bill and his family.
