William E. Young

William E. Young, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, January 8, 2007 at his home.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, January 12, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Private family graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park.
He was born October 31, 1921 in Gas City, Indiana, the son of Jason Edward & Carrie (Stephenson) Young. On August 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Vergin in Muncie, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2005.
William was employed as a Field Service Engineer with Leeds & Northrup for over 30 years, retiring in the late 1970’s.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ashland in the south Pacific.
His enjoyments & activities included playing golf, caring for his garden, reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling. He was also an accomplished cook.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Kathy (Gene) Breniman of Martinez, California and Betty (Gary) Karp of Indianapolis, Indiana; his granddaughter, Becky Field-Martinez; and his sisters, Helen Pfefferle of Leesburg, Indiana and Doris Krilich of Gig Harbor, Washington.
