William Emil Thiemann, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 21, 2004 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 23, 2004 at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at the funeral home by 9:30 A.M. Monday. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Beacon of Hope Hospice or the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf.
He was born February 17, 1930 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Walter E. & Elizabeth (Langer) Thiemann. On May 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lois A. Lehman in Bettendorf.
William was employed as an operating engineer affiliated with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #537. For many years, he was employed for Howard Steel in Davenport.
His memberships included the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf where he was Past-Commander, the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #664 of Bettendorf and the former Davenport Moose Club.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lois; his daughters & sons-in-law, Deborah & Jeffrey Rusk of Rock Island, Illinois, Cindy & Michael Stahler of Bettendorf, Cheryl & Stephen Hollonbeck of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Deanna & Kenneth (Jr.) Wilson of Rock Island; his grandchildren, Heather Gomez, Laura & Rebecca Stahler, Lucas Rusk and Ashley & Paul Wilson; his sister & brother-in-law, Audrey & Ralph Dodds in Florida; and his brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Jean Thieman of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
William was preceded in death by his parents.
