Winona Gail Van Pelt, 83, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois died on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at her sister’s home in Davenport, Iowa surrounded by her beloved family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 18, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club, the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
She was born July 13, 1922 in Venango, Nebraska, the daughter of Martin & Freda (Seibel) Johnson. In July of 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald Van Pelt in Davenport. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1975.
Winona retired from Sears Manufacturing in Davenport where she had worked for many years.
Among the things she enjoyed were scratch-off lottery tickets, gardening, caring for her flowers, feeding the birds and the company of her great-nephew, Nathan and her special step-granddaughter, Mindy.
Those left to honor her memory include her sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Clemens of Davenport, Jeanette Kapinski of Pleasant Valley, Iowa and Priscilla Hartley-Devlin in Florida; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her special friend, Deno Printy.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Joy Jakubowski and Elaine Trehall; and her brother, Robert Johnson.
