Zelpha Oaks

Zelpha A. Oaks, 83, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Humane Society. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Zelpha was born February 16, 1928 in Macomb, Illinois the daughter of Louis and Mary Wheeler. She was united in marriage to John N. Oaks in Moline, Illinois on July 15,1949. He preceded her in death in 2007.

She worked for many years as a waitress and hostess in several restaurants including Ben’s Gourmet House and Miss Mamie’s Catfish House.

She enjoyed painting, arts & crafts, and watching her favorite show, NCIS. She also loved animals of all kinds.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Melinda (Mike) Pettitt, Crystal River, Florida; her grandchildren, Michael Pettitt, David Pettitt and Emily Pettitt; her sister, Ruth Kitch, Brunswick, Georgia; her son-in-law, Alan Mohr, Eldridge, Iowa; her niece, Ruth Fuerer, Carbon Cliff, Illinois and her great-nephew, John Papish, Carbon Cliff.

In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Mohr, her brothers, Robert, Charles and Clyde Wheeler and her sisters Carol Flynn and Ada Papish.
